Interior of building with columns and arches and a collection of tropical plants

[Postmarked 1909]

Isn’t this a pretty place for the center of College Hall? I am getting along very nicely.

Mary Burd has just been down. She is an awfully dear girl. I was pretty homesick Sunday morning but have made up my mind not to waste that $195 by coming home. The girls are all dandy to us freshies. I’ve bought books today + have a $5 botany fee to pay + haven’t paid Miss Hunting yet. You see where the money goes. But I am as careful as I can be. I expect to get a letter in the morning with some money. Will write a letter soon. Lots + lots of love from Breta

Wellesley directories list Breta P. Lewis ’13 in Vernon, NY, and Mary Burd Norton ’13 in Utica. On Ancestry I see that Breta never married. Mary had a daughter who shared a birthday with me and was born the day the 19th Amendment passed (June 4, 1920).

Miss Abbie Hunting (1840-1919) operated a boarding house for students at 20 Cottage Street in the Vil.
